Room in Shared Apartment

Greetings, You have discovered our favorite place in all of New York. Located on one of the oldest streets in the city, facing a 100+ year old tree, this apartment is known as 'The Treehouse'. Home to an Artist and a Scholar. Thanks to our new edition of tatami mats, our shared living space has been converted to a 'Teahouse' of sorts. It also has a futon we added to be considered as a couch, however, it is also able to be put to the side for more space. A creative space to stimulate inspirational growth. I have lived in this unit the past 9 years with my roommate and we are currently looking for someone to sublet the bedroom downstairs. This was both of our first homes in the city and our only reason for staying. We are looking for someone who understands the energy of the space and who is willing to look after it with the same care as we do as well as bring their own creative force. In a city like NYC, a sacred refuge such as this treehouse becomes a nourishing oasis that never ceases to recharge and revitalize. Perfect for the fall season of new york weather. The rooftop terrace has some of the best roof views I personally have experienced. The entire apartment can be considered a duplex, with a roommate (Mohamad) who lives upstairs. He is a scholar specializing in Islamic Studies at Columbia University. The area the roof faces is a garden of the building across the street, so it is extremely quiet. You do not hear any traffic. It is also home to a variety of bird species such as Blue Jays, Red Cardinals there are also Falcons and Hawks that make their way onto the roof. To watch the tree change seasonally is a tranquil gift. Ideally this is a place for someone who wishes to seek inspiration within New York City, or someone who wishes to live like an Artist. We have spent the last few years crafting this space as an Artists residency that has housed creative friends and family from all walks of life. Ideally, we keep this artistic energy strong within the Treehouse and are looking for like minded individuals who work within the creative field This place can be more or less considered a New York City retreat, or an Artist's residency. Perfect for someone's first visit to NYC as it will set the tone for what the city truly has to offer if you are able to sit and listen. Also ideal for someone who knows the city and is looking for a unique perspective to reignite forgotten passion. This is a very special place and has evolved and come to life over the years. It is very sensitive to energies and we are looking for someone who respects this. This place is to be treated more so like a living gallery or museum. We look forward to seeing what story you will share with this space. It is a companion in and of itself and will look after you, as you look after it. There is a NO outside guest and pet policy unfortunately. Due to the nature of this space and the items within it. Exceptions may apply so please inquire. There are 2 bedrooms and 1 shared living space. PLEASE NOTE: Dining area is in the hallway where there is a foldable bar and stools. Will explain upon inquiry and upon tours. Pictures are there for reference. Please note that there will be an interview process with potential applicants. We are looking for someone to sublet from November 1st - March 1st. (For the fall and winter season) However, dates are flexible and prorated options are available however, rent adjustments may become applied. If you are looking for something month to month please let us know. Rates are subject to change based off availability. Will require Rent + Security deposit. Price does not include utilities. With internet the total ranges but averages around 100$ per person. A list of amenities: - Wifi plus smart TV - Microwave - Kitchen sink filter - Shower head filter - AC in both rooms - Full plant nursery. - Treehouse Teahouse room - Curated Tea blends - TV with internet access - Library of books - Rooftop access - Private roof deck - In building laundry drop off service - Local recommendations - and other little vibe tips and tricks that we can go over. Serious inquiries only. Thank you and have a beautiful day.

All of which can be yours! 🏡 Apartment • Two-floor walk-up • Dishwasher and all kitchen appliances • Furnished common spaces • In building amenities - washer/dryers and small gym • Coming soon to the living room: a record player 💸 Rent/Application Requirements • $1,633/month and security deposit of same amount • Utilities approximately $115/month, bit higher in winter months due to heating costs and Con Ed being Con Ed • One-time lease change/name transfer fee of $750 • 650+ credit score with no late payments on credit report • Proof of income that shows at least $70K annual • Good landlord reference We’ve lived here for the past year and love the apartment’s proximity to Manhattan as well as Williamsburg proper! We're looking for someone who is clean (not to IKEA showroom levels, but more clean up after yourself), easy to chat with, and interested in keeping the apartment a cozy place for us all to decompress. Women/femme preferred and no pets or smoking. If you think you would be a good fit, please send a small blurb sharing your age, favorite activities/hobbies, occupation, and typical schedule 😊

Room in Shared Apartment

**Room in Weeksville Duplex | $1,350/mo | Available ASAP** Hey — looking for someone to share my place on Sterling Place in Weeksville. It's a 2BR/1.5BA duplex in a small, quiet 4-unit building. The apartment has high ceilings, hardwood floors, big rooms, and gets a lot of sunlight. New kitchen with stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, and a dishwasher. We'd each have our own bedroom upstairs and share the bathroom for daily use. I use the basement as my personal space, so upstairs you'd basically have the living room to yourself — I do use the kitchen but honestly don't cook much, so it's rarely an issue. Laundry is coin-op in the basement, shared with the building (just 2 other units, so it's never a mess). You can access the laundry through the basement or from the shared exterior stairs outside the unit. Looking for someone chill who keeps to themselves mostly but isn't antisocial. 420-friendly household, no issues there. LGBTQ+ folks especially welcome. **The basics:** - $1,350/mo - Sublease required - No pets please - Must have steady income - I keep an early schedule — up early, in bed early. Evenings need to stay calm. No loud TV, no guests getting rowdy at night. Daytime is totally yours. Location is solid — close to the 3/4/5 and the A/C, walkable to restaurants, cafes, and groceries all around. Send me a message with a little about yourself, what you do, and when you're looking to move. Serious inquiries only.

When to book

Summer sublets post in two waves: a first wave in March and April from people planning travel, and a larger one in May as leaseholders confirm their plans. Booking in April gives the widest choice; booking in late May still works but the best-located rooms are gone.

Set up a search alert with your dates and budget so a matching listing reaches you the day it posts. Listings for June are often taken within a week.

Where interns actually live

A private room in a shared apartment is the usual choice: it costs roughly half of a studio and comes with roommates who already know the city. Whole apartments suit two or three interns sharing a lease for the summer.

For a midtown office, Murray Hill, Hell's Kitchen, Long Island City and Astoria put you within 20 minutes by subway. For downtown or Brooklyn offices, the East Village, Lower East Side, Williamsburg and Greenpoint are the usual picks. The 7, L, N/W and E trains make Queens and north Brooklyn faster than they look on a map.

What to check before paying

Ask for a short written agreement with the dates, the monthly amount, what the deposit covers and whether utilities and Wi-Fi are included. Pay only after a video call or an in-person visit, and never by wire to someone you have not spoken with.

A sublet of thirty days or more in New York City is legal with the leaseholder's right to sublet; stays under thirty days in a full apartment without the host present are not. Rooms with the host present are fine at any length.

Common questions

How early should an intern book a summer sublet in New York?
Booking in April gives the widest choice. Most summer listings post between March and May, and well-located rooms for a June start are usually taken within a week of posting.
Is a private room or a whole apartment better for an internship?
A private room in a shared apartment costs roughly half of a studio and is the usual choice for a single intern. Whole apartments make sense for two or three interns sharing.
Do I need a lease or a broker for an intern sublet?
No broker is involved on SubletNY and there is no fee. You should still get a short written agreement from the leaseholder covering dates, rent, deposit and what is included.
